Dr Martin Mkandawire, is a chemist and currently the Industrial Research Chair for Mine Water Management at the Verschuren Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment of Cape Breton University, Nova Scotia. His research activities are around mine water remediation and management with a goal to develop cost-effective strategies; and his research interests are, intra alia, in biophotonics and photochemistry of organometallic compounds, development of devices with improved energetics using bio-inspire design and bio-mimicked processes like improving energy conversion efficiency using bio-inspired design and architecture of devices in organic solar cell. Before joining Cape Breton University in 2013, Prof. Dr. Mkandawire was based at Technische Universitaet Dresden, Germany for close to 20 years, and he served the last five years as Privatdozent (associate professor) of Environmental Nanotechnology in Institute of Materials Science and Institute of General Ecology and Environmental Protection.
